Project Description
Visy Paper selected EPI's fluid bed boiler system to generate steam and dispose of plant
waste products at their state-of-the-art liner board facility in Brisbane, Australia. This
plant uses 100% recycled paper stock to produce the liner board products. Waste byproducts
from the process (including paper sludge and rejects) are used as fuel in the fluid bed boiler energy system. The energy system can
operate on coal, wood waste and natural gas in addition to the plant's waste products.
The 149 MBtu/hr fluidized bed boiler system produces 103,000 LB/hr of steam at 635 psi, 590 F. Two 40 MBtu/hr overbed natural gas burners can maintain the operation of the fluid bed boiler system in conjunction with, or independently of, the solid fuel combustion. EPI's proven design of steam generation surface immersed in the fluid bed is integrated with the waste heat style steam generator provided by John Thompson Company of Australia.
Particulate collection and sulfur dioxide abatement are achieved with a pulse-jet type baghouse.
EPI's long history of successfully burning a wide variety of waste fuels in a single unit was a key factor in the selection of EPI's technology for this application. The unique ability of EPI's fluidized bed design to maintain bed cleanliness during continuous operation on tramp laden fuel was critical to Visy.
Scope of Supply
EPI supplied the fluid bed combustion system, bed cleaning system, combustion air and
preheat system, inbed natural gas distribution system and inbed steam generation system.
