Project Description
Australian National Industries (ANI) selected EPI's fluid bed combustion system to generate steam and dispose of tanker sludge at the Malaysia Shipyard & Engineering Facility in Johor, Malaysia. The plant generates 1.5 megawatts of electrical power through the combustion of over 5000 pounds
per hour of tanker sludge.

The fluidized bed incorporates a unique inbed fuel injection system to maximize combustion efficiency. EPI's combustor is integrated into a waste heat boiler provided by ANI. The boiler generates 77,000 lbs/hr of steam at 635 psi, 590 F. One 15 MBtu/hr overbed natural gas burner provides start-up energy for the tanker sludge fuel.

EPI's long history of successfully burning a wide variety of waste fuels in a single unit was a key factor in the selection of EPI's technology for this application. The unique ability of EPI's fluidized bed design to maintain bed cleanliness during continuous operation on tramp laden fuels was critical to the success of the project.

Scope of Supply
EPI supplied the fluid bed combustion system, bed cleaning system, combustion air and preheat system. All components were shop fabricated in modules for quick erection at the site.
