ENERGY PRODUCTS OF IDAHO TO PROVIDE ENERGY SYSTEM FOR PAPER MILL IN ITALYFor Immediate Release Contact: Coeur d'Alene, Idaho USA, May 2000 . . . Energy Products of Idaho (EPI), a leading provider of waste-to-energy systems, has been selected to provide a fluidized bed waste-to-energy system converting paper sludge into usable energy in Italy. This plant is the third EPI installation in Italy. The first is a 6.5 MWe plant fueled on RDF located in Ravenna, and the second is the paper sludge fired energy system for Cartiere Burgo, the largest supplier of newsprint in Italy. This third Italian system is designed to convert paper sludge and other wood wastes into usable energy. New paper sludge from the mill along with bark and other wood waste materials fuels the EPI fluidized bed energy system. The energy system produces superheated steam that is directed to a steam turbine/generator set for electricity production. EPI's fluidized bed technology offers excellent operating characteristics and superior emissions performance while providing a method of extracting usable energy out of high-moisture, low-quality waste fuels like paper sludge. The EPI energy systems meet stringent air emissions requirements established by the plant operating permit. Use of EPI's fluidized bed combustion technology combined with the application of selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) technology produces NOX emissions that are under the European Union guidelines. Emissions of other pollutants such as SOx, CO and VOC's are also very low using the EPI energy system. EPI has designed and supplied fluidized bed waste-to-energy systems for twenty-seven years and has 77 installations worldwide. Specializing in converting difficult non-traditional fuels into usable forms of energy, EPI has more fluidized bed systems operating on a wider variety of fuels than any other supplier.
