Project Description
Masonite Corporation selected EPI to provide a fluidized bed advanced staged
gasifier (ASG) that converts plant waste materials and other biomass into usable
energy. The state-of-the-art biomass energy system installation is at Masonite’s
Laurel, Mississippi facility. This unique system provides two separate energy
streams, steam and cleaned high temperature gas, from a single fluidized bed ASG
cell.
This dual energy output system is made possible by using an EPI fluidized bed advanced staged gasifier that includes EPI’s proprietary online bed cleaning and reinjection system.
EPI's fluidized bed technology offers excellent operating characteristics and superior emissions performance while providing a method of extracting usable energy from a wide variety of renewable fuels. This energy system at the Masonite Laurel, MS, plant will help the plant meet stringent air emissions requirements established by the plant operating permit.
Scope of Supply
The new process heat system includes a specially designed blend chamber that combines the boiler system exhaust gas with hot flue gas directly from the outlet of the ASG and ambient air. This system supplies 100% of the heat input required for the plant’s product dryers and allows the plant more flexibility consuming the biomass residues from Masonite’s manufacturing process.
In addition to supplying process heat, the ASG provides the energy for a boiler system designed specifically for this project. The steam produced by this boiler is used to heat the plant’s board presses and satisfies 100% of the plant’s steam demands.
