Project Description
The Delano project is the largest agricultural waste/urban waste fired power plant in the world. The facility, completed in two phases, incorporates two EPI fluidized bed combustor/boiler systems that use regional waste products as fuel.

Unit I generates 32 MWe and unit II generates 26 MWe through ABB supplied steam turbine generators. Each power boiler generates steam at 1350 psi and 955 deg. F. All waste fuel is injected overbed with induced air spreaders. Minimum excess air levels are maintained through the use of in-bed and above-bed heat transfer surface along with flue gas recirculation.

Limestone is fed into the combustor to control acid gas emissions and ash slagging. NOx levels of .08 LB/MBtu have been achieved through the use of EPI's selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) system using ammonia injection into the vapor space. Gas cleanup occurs in a pulse jet baghouse. The systems have achieved boiler efficiencies above 80% and meet some of the most stringent emission levels in the country.

Scope of Supply
EPI provided the two boiler islands beginning at the fuel metering systems and continuing through the stacks. Natural circulation, Delta heat recovery steam generators complement the in-vessel, forced circulation boiler systems designed and supplied by EPI. Low flue gas temperatures are achieved by utilizing both economizers and combustion air preheaters.
